Foundation

It is located in an area where Monasteries had a major influence and that was enriched by the presence of the Cistercian Order, the most powerful order mainly due to the wealth of Alcobaça which was also the Cistercian Order's artistic and intellectual centre.
The Casa Pão de Ló de Alfeizerão was established in 1925 by Father João Matos Vieira and his sister, Adília Matos Vieira, in a place where History is wrapped in mystery and legends; the recipe of its Sponge Cake, as well as those of its different conventual sweets, came from the monasteries of the Alcobaça area.
